This Week @ ripe – April 29th

We’ve always said one of our favorite things to do is to go on press inspection. In fact, we said it right here. This week, we’ve been working with our printers on one of our most complicated business cards yet. It involves a tricky custom die cut and a shiny, shiny foil stamp. Since it’s not quite done, we’ll just share a glimpse:

foil

The #88 and the #10 above signify different types of gold foil. #10 was so shiny we almost went blind examining the proof sheet, and #88 needed to be a little more on the yellow side.

When budgeting time for a project, we try to give the print process at least two weeks. Usually something will go wrong during printing that’ll require some trouble-shooting. It’s not anybody’s fault – after all printers are not as intimately familiar with our designs as we are – it’s just something to be expected and taken into account ahead of time. This time around it was the foil die. The green arrows point to a weird gap issue we noticed during press inspection. The gold frame design should continue uninterrupted, but it got cut off somehow. We’re not sure at which step in the process the error was introduced, but a new foil die needed to be ordered.

All in all, it’s going to be a great-looking card with an unusual aesthetic for us. Keep an eye out for the final results in a week or so!
