In this digital age, complex print jobs are slowly becoming a thing of the past. When deciding on how to print something, lots of people end up going for cheaper options rather than quality options. However there are still clients out there who understand the value of quality printing, and they can sometimes surprise you.
Take, for instance, a current client of ours out in California. We’ve been working with them over the past couple of months and have developed a super-colorful, extremely fun brand. While we usually encourage clients to stick with one or two brand colors, we decided to go out on a limb and use a half dozen or so interchangeable hues for this project. When it came time to design their business cards, we thought it might be fun to use all of their various colors on the back and to allow people to choose which color their business card would be. However we nearly threw that idea out before even presenting it to the client. Printing it the right way – with spot color – would require a six color print job which is tricky, time consuming and, of course, more expensive than a traditional four color run.
But why not present the idea to the client, we thought. They can always just go with another option if they don’t feel like paying for a six color print job. So we did, and they loved the concept. Fast forward to today, and the first run of their cards has been delivered in all of its six-color-splendor. Unfortunately there were some issues with the job (see if you can spot them in the image below!) so we’ve sent it back to the printer for another go around. They’re going to look fantastic when they’re finally finished, though. After all, there’s nothing quite like a high quality business card.

Later in the week we received yet another produce-filled box from Washington’s Green Grocer and immediately turned half of it into a massive, tasty salad. The rest we stuffed away into our fridge, which is now pretty full of delicious fruits and veggies. If you haven’t tried them out yet, we’d strongly encourage you to do so. Stay tuned for their new brand and site… we can’t wait to share them!

Very very cool stuff! I wish I worked in your office
Amazing views, fresh fruits & vegetables, trips to Kilimanjaro, and beautiful designs…
Great post. So true about cost over quality in this day and age. Some things digital simply cannot reproduce well. Nothing like a nice PMS spot run. As far as issues with the job in the photo…. inconsistently trimmed?
Great job.
Inconsistently trimmed – correct! Ten points to Steve.
